The Women of The Seven ♀️
The women of The Seven are characters I'm completely proud of, and I love drawing attention to them on days like International Women's Day. One of my priorities while writing The Seven was to write these women properly without falling into overused stereotypes. It is a common mistake for writers to go overboard when trying to modernise their female characters, and end up falling in the opposite direction, putting down typically feminine traits and habits in the process.
That is why Whitney is what would be considered a "basic female" in certain circles. She is blonde, she is beautiful, she cares about fashion and her appearance. But she is more beyond that. She is complicated, she is fierce, she can and will tell you as it is, even if it will hurt your feelings. A fun fact also is that Whitney is the character I sketch the most simply because I love drawing her in so many different fashions and styles! 🎨
What I wanted to make sure with Thursday was that she didn't care what people think of her. Not just men, just people in general. Thursday lives the life that she wants to live, and scrap anyone who has a problem with that. She has faced discrimination for her race; her mental health; her status and yet she continues to do what she always does: what she wants. She also has a taste for women herself, just like a certain woman who wrote her 😝
Sybil was in many ways a very easy case for me. Saturday's child works hard for a living, after all, so I made her a working woman. Someone who very much needs to be busy with something, anything, or else she'll go spare. If any of the men in The Seven offered their wages so she didn't have to work anymore she'd laugh at them. Her work is what she lives for, it's what she wants to do with her life, and I very much honed in on my own passion for writing when writing about Sybil's worth ethic 📝
Obviously I can't give away much more without spoiling the book, so if any of those details about these badass ladies interest you, you know where to find The Seven 😉
Keep Creating,
