January Book Roundup
I'm most definitely hoping that January is just the trial month of 2022 and is not an omen as to how the rest of the year plans to be. The only upside is that I got loads of reading done in an attempt to ignore the hurricane whipping up around me. Five books in the space of a month has got to be a personal best for me, definitely for recent years at least!
I was fortunate enough to stumble upon all eleven of the 50th Anniversary Doctor Who books in the charity shop I volunteer at. Well, my best friend/manager stumbled upon them and kept them aside for me but that's semantics! I obviously had to buy all eleven books and I have been slowly but surely working my way through them since October.
I started book six on December 30th and finished book ten just yesterday. All very interesting stories in their own rights, but I definitely enjoyed book six, called Players, the most. I was most disappointed by book seven, which was a novelisation of one of my favourite Doctor Who stories, Remebrance of the Daleks. It didn't do the storyline any justice and was written in quite basic prose, which was ironic since it was written by the same man who wrote the TV episodes.
My ratings and thoughts for each book can be found on my Goodreads page:
My book ratings this month averaged at 2.8 stars. That probably doesn't sound great but I did enjoy the books, I've just gotten more critical over the years. I was always going to be with these books in particular since Doctor Who is super important to me.
I've one more book to read in the collection and then I can finally dig into the books I got for Christmas. As much as I love Doctor Who, the change of pace and background will be welcome. I haven't been much for series' these past few years and this collection has sort of felt like one very long series. It will be nice to break out into something different again.
Keep creating,
Erin Curran
